Week 23

All is going well with #2! We had our monthly appointment with our OB on Friday and Baby’s heart rate is 154…very steady. And comparing this week’s picture to Week 22, it almost looks like my belly shrunk. I guarantee it didn’t!

Happy Hiker

Yesterday we packed up the car, the kid and the dog and drove up to Mt. Charleston to escape the heat. The temperature was a mild 90 instead of 108, and though it’s cooler at the higher elevation (trailheads at 7,000 feet) there isn’t much to do besides drive up there and turn around. Regardless, Tommy had fun walking a few short trails and throughout the evening he spoke about the “good hiking” for which we had praised him. He must think he’s ready to replace his doggy backpack with a Camelbak or something! Kaya had a good time stretching her paws in the wilderness and the brief car ride was a tiny taste of what lies ahead of us on our upcoming road trip. A toddler, a dog and a woman who is nearly 6 months pregnant…James is going to go nuts!

Week 22

She’s still growing! It’s hard to believe a couple of weeks ago I was excited about already being at the halfway mark…now I can’t help but think I’m ONLY at the halfway mark. Las Vegas’ soaring temperatures aren’t helping to make this phase of pregnancy any easier. We’ve been well into the triple digits lately and it’s quite miserable. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

Baby Girl’s weight, approximately one pound, is starting to press down on my pelvic bones already. A pound doesn’t sound like much, but it can certainly feel like a whole lot more at times. I don’t remember this shift happening nearly as early with Tommy. I’m trying to limit lifting heavy loads – groceries, Tommy – to ease the discomfort.

Tommy is getting more and more excited about the baby. Now that he can see my growing belly I think he might understand that Baby Sister is inside. He even goes so far as to speak directly to her…he crawls next to me on the couch, leans over my belly and says, “I love you, Baby Sister!” with a pat and a smile. It’s the sweetest thing. He’s still, by the way, talking about how he helped to pick out the lamp for her room.

Fourth of July Fun

Tommy had a great 4th of July. We had a few friends over for a barbecue and he chowed on a grilled hot dog and homemade cornbread. Since it was 115 degrees that day, we stayed inside until the sun dropped and then he went for a dip in the pool with Daddy, wearing his adorable American flag swim trunks. He also enjoyed watching Daddy light fireworks in the street in front of our home. He kept saying “Daddy blow out fireworks” while he watched the show, puffing his cheeks as though trying to extinguish birthday candles. Here he sits like such a big boy on our driveway before the fun began.
