No Cavities! (and a funny story)

Tommy visited his dentist, Dr. Kinner, today. He was very cooperative while the hygienist cleaned his teeth and helped her count all 20 of them. He enjoyed thumbing through an “I Spy” book while we waited for the doctor and was such a brave boy for the exam. He also reported that Annalise only has five teeth, so she doesn’t have to see the dentist yet.

No, he’s not sedated in this picture, I just didn’t get a very good shot of him in the chair.

Big, bright light on his face.

So, here’s the funny story. After an exam at Dr. Kinner’s office, patients get to pick a prize from a treasure chest full of toys (the office is a nautical theme). Tommy always pains over this decision, then chooses the same pair of binoculars that break before the sun goes down. Today was no different but he got a little flustered that another boy was choosing a toy at the same time and went to go shut the lid of the treasure chest. In doing so, he unexpectedly squished his boy parts and started crying. He told me with tears streaming down his cheeks, “I hurt my Jingle Bells!”

He’s OK. But that was the funniest thing I’ve heard in a very long time!

Thumbs Up to Princesses and Ponies

I think we really, truly have a little girly-girl on our hands. Annalise recently discovered princesses, ponies and pink. She probably would have been content playing with Tommy’s Hot Wheels, airplanes and race tracks her entire childhood, but I figured it was time to buy her some of her OWN toys. Why not make them pink?

Here she GRINS with her new princess sippy cup. I think that’s a thumbs up sign!

Posing with her very first My Little Pony, Strawberry Swirl.

Tommy shows Annalise HIS first My Little Pony, Toola-Roola. I think I’ll buy a whole stable full, as they actually play really well together with them.

So the story behind how the ponies made it into our house. We were at Toys R Us, with the goal of finding a Barbie for a friend of Tommy’s, when my eyes caught on a My Little Pony display that nearly reached the rafters. Apparently it’s their 25th anniversary this year. My heart melted, as they were my FAVORITE toys growing up. I said to Tommy, “Forget Barbie, your pal is getting some ponies!” This statement piqued Tommy’s interest and he asked, “Can I get a pony, Mommy?” And I replied, “OF COURSE YOU CAN! Choose one for you and one for Annalise, Sweetie!” James wasn’t thrilled to find his son playing with a “girl” toy, but I’m sure excited to have them in the house. I’m thinking about calling my childhood friends, Karla and Brandi, to see if they want to come over to play…with me!

Happy Kids

Here are a few shots of our happy kiddos. They’re so full of smiles…especially little Lisey.

Tommy’s First Library Card

Tommy got his first library card in early September. He was having one of his “I MUST wear my big, ridiculous, Elton John sunglasses everywhere” days. His favorite kinds of books are airplanes (of course), Mickey Mouse and Curious George. He has also taken a liking to flipping through the comic books on display.

Here he and Annalise enjoy storytime at the library. I think we lasted all of five minutes before we had to get up and leave!

10 Months Old

Annalise on 8.29.08. Here she’s pictured with Daddy at a car dealership. We were minivan shopping. Gulp. (As of 9.22, no minivan…just can’t seem to take that plunge!)

At 10 months, Annalise could pull to standing. She had a grand total of 5 teeth (two bottom, three top) and her favorite things to eat included goldfish crackers, raspberries and cinnamon bagels.
