We never intended for our stay in Portland to be short, but we went into it seeing what could be and what would happen. After 10 years selling real estate I knew that I didn’t want to spend another decade doing it, even if things were going pretty well in Portland. After months of waiting following my application, a whirlwind of interviews in March led me to accepting a job with a global IT/business consulting company, Accenture, and moving at the end of April to San Jose, CA. After several weeks of training and finally gaining Andrea’s acceptance to move here, our family is together and just moved into a house in Fremont, CA, in the East Bay about 15 miles north of San Jose and 35 miles south of San Francisco.

I hope we can post some pictures soon of the journey…I definitely have some and I know Andrea has many more. Thank you to our friends on both ends who helped us load and unload the truck. It all worked out and at least the inside of the house is coming together although we still have a garage full of boxes.

7 years and 364 days ago Andrea and I were married in Las Vegas. Last night we celebrated with a great Thai dinner in San Francisco followed by seeing Wicked. Dinner was rushed  complimentary of Bay Area traffic adding an extra 30 minutes to the drive, but we stuff ourselves with chicken Pad Thai, beef pumpkin curry and other treats before rushing off to see the show. The parking gods smiled upon us and we made it into the show in plenty of time. The kids were good for our babysitter, and so another great anniversary outing is complete. Tomorrow night on our anniversary day I’m sure we’ll crack open a great bottle of wine to go with whatever wonderful food we decide to whip up. Maybe a good barbeque roast should be on this menu.  Yummm…

Tommy starts school in just a week, and we got him enrolled here in soccer too so he gets to play each week with his friends. It’s not competitive at this point, but still lots of fun. Annalise is itching for dance classes, so we’re exploring our options and trying to find the right place for her.

After we get them pajama’ed up, they follow me to my room where I begin my own way-before-bed ritual by washing off my make up and getting into my most comfortable couch potato wear (yes, I’m usually in pajamas no later than 7pm…what’s the problem?).

Nightly they explore each dresser drawer, overturn several stack of books and upend every hanger on the low poles in my closet…all in the time it takes me to remove mascara. But tonight they stumbled across a major distraction: velcro rollers. Not only did they have fun putting them in each other’s hair, but Tommy showed Annalise how to properly nest them according to size and color. He also managed to show her how well they pick up dog hair off Kaya’s favorite bath rug. With the help of the rollers and these three activities, I think I just might be able to begin my nighttime routine a bit more peacefully. Now let’s just hope they don’t figure out how to reach my makeup brushes any time soon, as “clown blush” is surely Beauty Shop Lesson #2…

We hiked at Red Rock a few times. Visited the Las Vegas Museum of Natural History (taxidermy, anyone?). Tommy & Daddy went to the mini gran prix for some racing. Tommy wore his blue Speed Racer t-shirt EVERY DAY. Annalise visited the dentist for the first time…she screamed like a banshee for the exam and held a grudge until I gave her ice cream later that day.

More backyard action. "Look over there!" Tommy hikes Red Rock Canyon Tommy, Mommy & Annalise under big rocks on our hike. "Have you seen that one episode of LOST?" Visiting the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. Tommy & Annalise playing St. Patrick's Day tea party at the Town Square play area. Annalise at Dunkin Donuts. Quite pleased with the strawberry old fashioned. Forget the donut, I want to eat her up!!! Hording all kinds of things in her car seat while en route to Los Angeles. Snoozing on the way to LA. Annalise's first trip to the dentist. I thought she was going to shank me with the mirror tool. She was MAD, but no cavities! What better way to celebrate no cavities...ice cream cones! We just celebrated her birthday, right? The past few months truly are a blur. Today we visited Dr. Blank for her well-baby check up. Here she is in all her cuteness.

She is growing and changing so much every day. She is 31.5″ tall (75-90%), 23 lbs. 10 oz. (50-75%) and her head circumference is 46 cm (50%). She has grown into 24m/2T tops and dresses. The waist of 18M pants are still quite loose, but the length of her jeans and cords seem to get shorter with every wear. Her size 6 shoe collection is growing…I really hope she stays this size until the weather turns warm.

She does care much for being cold and she was a pretty upset when I set her on the exam table. If you think she’s mad here, you should’ve seen her when the doctor looked in her mouth. I dread her upcoming dentist’s appointment like you wouldn’t believe.

She learned a new trick today, too. She can now climb onto the kitchen chairs and sat at the table “big girl” style for cereal club. I’m proud of her…until I find her ON the table instead of seated in the chair. ;)

Tommy still calls is the “mue-zee-EM” and I want to laugh every time he says it.

All four kids had a ton of fun…it’s so great to see how much they’re growing. Tommy really enjoyed exploring the Clifford exhibit, splashing at the water tables and creating a dragon mask in honor of Chinese New Year. Annalise just loved running around touching everything. She got out on the dance floor and twirled while holding a pair of ruby slippers from the dress-up trunk. She also had a great time holding crayons and markers in the art room. It’s amazing to see her becoming a little girl. She’s so active and brave…it’s hard to remember her baby days already!

She desperately wants to figure out how to crack the code of the baby gates. Brother is more than happy to help her get past them, as he mastered them quite a while ago. She’s very interested in gaining access to the bathrooms, curious about the toilet paper rolls, climbing the stepstool up to the counter, and, ugh, the toilet. I took my eyes off her for one second and found her moments later standing RIGHT NEXT to her brother while he peed. She was just watching, but eww. Perhaps the early interest will translate into fewer months in diapers?
We enjoyed watching the inauguration together (Tommy was at school) and it was a very special moment for me. What an amazing feeling of hope and promise.
She’s become very intrigued with dress-up, shoes, purses, jewelry…anything girly. She slips her feet into my shoes whenever I leave them lying around (frequently!). She has a blast dragging my old purses around in the closet and throws anything resembling a handbag swiftly over her shoulder to haul around a variety of collected items. She tugs on my necklaces and bracelets until I take them off and let her wear them. Anyone know where to get little girl necklaces that aren’t total choking hazards?
And something I’m very excited to announce…she has enough hair that she can wear psuedo-pigtails! I’m able to gather her little wisps up into teeny tails while the back forms in the cutest ringlets (not a mullet, Uncle D!). I need to figure out a way to get her to hold still for the styling sessions, though. Her best cooperation comes during breakfast…being strapped in her booster seat with cereal in front of her is a great distraction.
